It seems as if it were yesterday when Baltimore native son Jonathan Nelson burst on the scene with his group Purpose delivering richly robust invigorating melodies and a string of hits that dominated radio.  Over the years, Nelson has penned some of the great songs of the modern day Gospel songbook including The Struggle Is Over, My Name Is Victory and Healed, which garnered his first Stellar Award.

Some two decades later, Nelson called the group together for a nostalgic trip down memory lane with the end result being The Reunion CD.  Faithful fans and Gospel music lovers gave the CD the official stamp of approval as Nelson awoke to news of the disc’s being nominated in the Choir of the Year and Contemporary Choir of the Year categories for the 36th Annual Stellar Awards.

Nelson expressed his appreciation, “I am honored and humbled to be nominated for the Stellar Awards. Thank you God, for an opportunity to sing your praise.  This is a special moment, I am grateful that Purpose gets a chance to see the reach and impact the music has had on people, great music is timeless and doesn’t have an expiration date.  None of this would be possible without the team who works with me, I am grateful for my wife Christina and my manager Antoine.  I cannot leave out the Entertainment One staff.  I am also grateful for Kerry Douglas and Kerry Douglas Radio Promotions for the work they do.  Manifest is currently in the top 25 at Gospel radio, and to every radio programmer, every listener, every buyer, every person that streams this music, thank you so much.”

Nelson continues to inspire hope and encouragement through the healing power of music for today’s generation and for many others in the years to come.
